All NIU employees who are experiencing challenges with aging parents are invited to join this listserv. This is very difficult time as your roles are reversed; you are now the caregiver. Assisting parents who can no longer care for themselves is challenging. It is a time when you need to find many new resources to meet your parent’s physical and emotional needs. Many times their needs and care are in conflict with their wishes. The purpose of this listserv is to have a place where you can exchange information and provide support to each other. All the research on dealing with stressful times suggests that sharing your experiences helps you feel you are not alone and increases your ability to cope. In addition to communicating on the listserv, there will be opportunities to meet face-to-face. For more information on coping, see the Employee Assistance Program Webpage. Using Eldercare
To post a message to all the list members, send email to eldercare@lists.niu.edu. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below.
Subscribing to Eldercare
Subscribe to Eldercare by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This is a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Your email address:   Your name (optional):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in cleartext. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription.
